Floating (Night Swim)

from Life Feels Better by the Water by Jeanette Berry

about

This song was written during the pandemic. I had just finished watching The Good Place, and began I May Destroy You. The idea of heaven having a part of it, where, it's simply too much good, and you can choose to leave, made me feel some type of way. I don't even know what it means to me as I write this. But that image stuck with me, floating away. And then, the scene in I May Destroy You when arabella on the beach in Italy, felt so vulnerable and beautiful all at the same time. I wondered how it would be if the person she was there with loved her like she needed. That's where this song came from. I love this song, and I'm so glad I got the musicians I wanted to play it.

lyrics

We met at the ocean
The beach was empty
It was just you and I
The stars looked down
Jealous of how bright we shined
A light in the dark
You held me close
Smelled of home
I floated
Here in the moment
But yet above
Floating

Look in my eyes make me melt
My chest rises as I breathe in your magic
Look in my eyes make me melt
My chest rises as I breathe in your magic

And when we kiss
Time stood still
We held on
Knowing what comes
In the morning
You'd be gone
Floating

Look in my eyes make me melt
My chest rises as I breathe in your magic
Look in my eyes make me melt
My chest rises as I breathe in your magic

May we steal away
Like this forever
Floating
Like this forever
May we steal away
Like this forever
Oh

A light in the dark
You held me
And smelled of home
We steal away
Floating

We steal away
Like this forever
